Hobkirks Sewing Machines former employee Leanne Richards has recently won a competition with Mini Motor Vehicles in Manchester in which the aim was to design a new roof for a mini car.

Leanne was a part-time employee at our Bury branch for ten years, demonstrating and selling machines to customers. She has a wide knowledge of sewing machines and the sewing industry which is why she decided to further her experience and skills by studying for a degree in embroidery at university. However Leanne still occassionaly helps out at our shop during busy periods.

For the past three years Leanne has attended Manchester Metropolitain University studying for a degree in BA (Hons) Embroidery. She has just recently completed her degree on 16th July 2010.

During studying for her degree, Leanne entered the competition with Mini Motor Vehicles which she was delighted to become the winner of. It is Leanne's unique ideas and designs that possibly made her stand out against all of the other entries. As Leanne has such a wide knowledge and experience in embroidery, she decided to incorporate this to her design. She used computerised embroidery to design the roof for the Mini car which means that the design looks as though it is made from material and has been embroidered. This gives a very unique and effective look to the car. As well as the roof for the Mini, Leanne then went on to use her creation to design seats for the interior of a coach (which can be seen on the photographs).

Leanne's designs have been displayed for people to see in the gallery at her university's degree show. People were very impressed by her designs and one spectator was so impressed that they decided to buy the Mini car that Leanne had designed.
