A pretty lock-stitch machine, set on a wooden base. "Dolly Varden" was the marque of machines made by Thomas Beecroft and Co. of Leeds. The company was founded in 1856. Thomas Beecroft, is said to have made sewing machines at his home in 1851, when he was 19 years old.
Peter Hobkirk, Managing Director of Hobkirk Sewing Machines Ltd is a keen antique sewing machine enthusiast and collector & is also a member of ISMACCS. (International Sewing Machine Antique Collectors Society).
