Forget the X-Factor, ditch Big Brother - the best reality show is back! Yes, the third series of The Great British Sewing Bee hit our screens on February 5th and we are already hooked. Who will steal the crown from last year’s winner?
The Great British Sewing Bee was created in the wake of the hugely-successful Great British Bake Off and sets out to find and crown ‘Britain’s Best Home Sewer’. Ten contestants are put through a series of ever-more-difficult challenges that test their skills to the maximum, having to alter existing designs as well as create their own bespoke clothing and furnishings. The series has been extremely popular and a BBC Children in Need celebrity special, featuring Gaby Roslin, Louie Spence and Edith Bowman, among others, raised lots of money for the charity.
So, who is battling it out for the coveted title this year? Well, it’s bigger and better than ever with ten contestants in the running: we are already big fans of retired Air Hostess Lorna and Theatre Dresser Ryan and there are one or two unlikely members of the group such as Neil, a Lieutenant Colonel! Neil was actually the surprise winner of ‘Best Garment’ in the first challenge for his exquisite princess-seamed dress.
Judging the show once again are May Martin from the WI and Patrick Grant, a designer from London’s famous Savile Row. Each episode sees the contestants faced with an alteration, pattern and bespoke challenge, the results of which are combined to reveal who will be eliminated that week and who will take a step closer to the prize.
