Hobkirk Sewing Machines

We Are Hive Business Award Finalists!

The Hive Blackburn and Darwen Business Awards are back for their second year and we are VERY proud and excited to announce that we are finalists in this year's Family Business Award Category.
The Hive Business Awards are a great opportunity to shout about what we do and for those who have entered to receive recognition among peers.
We are finalists in the Family Business category which is for businesses in the borough that have kept it in the family. We are a family run and owned business where more than one generation contributing to the success of our business. Hobkirks was founded in 1903 by Mr William Hobkirk and Hobkirk & Son began trading from Salford, Blackburn (Not Manchester). William was joined by his son Edgar Hobkirk then in the 60's by Edgar's son and William's grandson Peter Hobkirk who is today, the current chairman of the business. Mark Hobkirk joined the company in 1993 and in June of 2005 became Sales Director, with Peter Hobkirk as Company Chairman. In 2012 Mark became Managing Director and now oversees all areas of the company. Mark's wife also works within the family company taking care of the accounts department.
This award is very important to us as for generations, Hobkirks has been trading on Darwen Street and is still today, owned and run by the Hobkirk family! Although Sewing Machines are our main area of business, over the years we have progressed and developed into other areas with the expansion of our fabric and haberdashery store and even the T-Shirt Cabin which is situated now in it's own independent shop next to the main shop on Darwen Street.
We are looking forward to the event which is being held at the Blackburn Cathedral on 26th May and would like to wish the other family run businesses in our category; Ainsworth Jewellers, Bryan Lee Builders and Cronshaw Electrical good luck!
